Our team, SERCO UNI Győr, has played six matches in the 2023/24 season, three Hungarian championship and three Euroleague matches. In the Women’s first division we have beaten Vasas, BEAC and BKG, while in the Euroleague we are still looking for our first win. This weekend our girls are not playing, so now is the time to reflect on what we have seen so far. We asked head coach László Cziczás to assess what has happened in the last 2 months.

"We are undefeated in the Hungarian league so far, although last time against BKG we needed some time to warm up into the game." László Cziczás began, "Nevertheless, the confident wins against Vasas and BEAC show a good direction for team cohesion."

"Going along this line of thought, against BKG we already had a persistent problem, namely that we have not managed to play a single game with our full squad, even though we have already played six matches. Injuries, illnesses and other minor problems have hampered not only our performance on the pitch, but also our overall preparation. When we finally saw the light at the end of the tunnel, that we might have the chance to play Bologna with a full squad, we had to deal with Debora Dubei's eye injury, whose full recovery will take a few weeks." Cziczás continued.

Diamond Miller: "Diamond indicated after the game against Bologna that something was wrong with her knee, so she missed the game against BKG, but her condition did not improve and she needed further tests. The results of the MRI were analysed by our doctors as well as by experts from the United States, and based on the consultation, the management and the doctors decided that Diamond will travel home to Minnesota for a few weeks for treatment and rehabilitation. We hope to have her back on the team in mid-November!"

"Because of the extra minutes due to our restricted rotation, we are trying to find recovery time for key players, but unfortunately this is not an easy task due to the Hungarian league, Euroleague and national team competitions calendar this year."

"Just to talk about something positive," said László Cziczás, "the atmosphere in the dressing room is excellent. The girls get along well and everyone has a common goal in mind. The import signings are bringing the high level expected of them, which we need in the Euroleague and in the Hungarian league. Destiny Slocum's work ethic is exemplary, and in training she is still at the same level of excitement that the public has seen in matches. She has been one of our best in recent matches. The other player who has excelled is Kristine Anigwe, who has been among the top performers twice in the three Euroleague rounds so far. Her work under the basket is impressive, she excels in rebounding and scoring. Alongside them, the Hungarian core is doing a great job, everyone is giving their all, whether it's a starring role or an episodic one."

"The season is still long and I believe that these initial difficulties will only last for a while. We are fighting in every single match, we can't complain about that, and as soon as we find our rhythm, the results will come on the European stage. In the meantime, we ask all our fans to support us in our home matches with the same enthusiasm as always." - concluded our head coach.
